Ann Fenech, Head of the Marine Litigation Department and President of the Comité Maritime International, was yesterday invited to attend the signing ceremony of the UN Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships in Beijing China. She was also a Key Note speaker at the symposium that followed.

The Convention was signed by 15 States and was adopted by the General Assembly of the UN on the 7th of December 2022. The original Draft was the work of the CMI. The entire scope of the convention is to bring certainty and eliminate instability pertaining to ships purchased in judicial sales free and unencumbered.

Ann Fenech was the CMI Co-ordinator for the project during the deliberations in Working Group VI at UNCITRAL from 2018 – 2022.
