Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs)

Conducting a Data Privacy Impact Assessment is a legal requirement for any processing that is likely to result in high risk to the rights and freedoms of individuals. The assessment undertaken by virtue of a DPIA is a key part of the accountability obligations a business has under the GDPR.

DPIAs are not just a compliance exercise. An effective DPIA allows a business to identify and fix problems at an early stage, bringing wider benefits for both individuals and the organisation. It is designed to help a business systematically analyse, identify and minimise the data protection risks involved in a particular project. Effectively, a DPIA should help a business curtail and determine whether or not the level of risk is acceptable in the circumstances, taking into account the benefits the business wishes to attain.

The team at Fenech & Fenech Advocates may assist a business in carrying out a DPIA for any type of processing activity, alongside a Company’s Data Protection Officer or Representative or whilst fulfilling the role of Data Protection Officer or Representative of the Company.
