Nikol Caruana joined Fenech & Fenech Advocates in 2021 and is an Associate within the Corporate and Commercial Department. He graduated as a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2016 and was called to the Maltese Bar the following term in 2017. Nikol has been practicing law mainly in civil and commercial matters, assisting local and international clients through legal counselling and representation in disputes before the Maltese courts and regulatory authorities.  During his career he has handled cases relating to property disputes, corporate issues, debt recovery, tortious and contractual claims. In the recent years, he has focused more on commercial and corporate matters relating to varied business transactions, corporate compliance, company organization, internal and cross border claims.

Nikol considers his experience as quite varied as he has practiced with several established law firms and company service providers, in both advisory and representative roles. Initially, He focused on building a solid foundation in civil and commercial litigation, thus enhancing his knowledge in both court procedure and substantive civil and commercial law.  This required attending sittings and debating before courts, boards and tribunals while also filing/defending court actions and enforcing /challenging judicial decisions, all within the strict parameters established by procedural law.  In due course, Nikol also developed experience in handling transactional matters in local and cross border settings relating to commercial and corporate affairs, including mergers and acquisitions, company reorganization, liquidation and winding up, among others. This required providing legal advice and other services such as contractual drafting and negotiating, overseeing legal due diligence exercises, ensuring adequate compliance and handling of corporate filings.
