Charlotte Pokharel qualified as a lawyer in 2011, following which she was awarded a full scholarship by the Maltese Ministry of Foreign Affairs so as to pursue a masters programme in International Maritime Law at the International Maritime Law Institute. Thereafter, she volunteered briefly with a local NGO assisting illegal immigrants. She then joined the commercial department of a local firm prior to joining Fenech and Fenech Advocates in 2014 so as to pursue her passion in shipping law.
Charlotte Pokharel has assisted with several security transactions involving the registration of mortgages and amendment mortgages over Malta flagged vessels, as well as the subsequent deletion of same. She has also been involved in the pledging of ship owning company’s shares, as further security granted to financiers in shipping transactions.
She has also been involved in the ship sale and purchase area as well as the registration of vessels under the Malta flag, including also transfers of ownership within the flag. She has dealt with the ongoing requisites to ensure compliance of vessels with domestic legislation and international conventions that Malta is party to, leading up to the eventual closure of registry of the vessels under the Malta flag.
