Daniel‑Luc Farrugia, Associate in our Marine Litigation Department, participated as a panellist in sessions held in mid‑October in Malta, focused on the decarbonisation of the shipping industry, with a particular emphasis on ports and shore power implementation.

The discussions covered the European Fit for 55 package, namely the AFIR and FuelEU Maritime Regulations, as well as the IMO’s Net-Zero Framework, and their impact on the regulatory landscape for the decarbonisation of ports.

The conversation also highlighted how ports are translating policy into practice, driving the transition to cleaner, smarter operations, with Malta at the forefront thanks to continued investment in key port infrastructure.
