Yesterday, Fenech & Fenech Advocates held its third webinar in the Fenech & Fenech Advocates Maritime Series – Talks with the Industry. This webinar focused on Judicial Sales of Vessels.

We were honoured to have amongst us, guest speakers Mr Tilman Stein, Director and Senior Counsel of Deutsche Bank AG, who discussed ship financing and how banks look upon judicial sales, Mr Christos Mangos, CEO of Interunity Management Corporation, who spoke about his experience with judicial sales of vessels in Malta, Mr Peter Laurijssen, Legal Director at Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB), who elaborated upon what shipowners look out for when considering participation in a judicial sale, and Mr Paul Falzon, Malta’s International Transport Workers Federation Inspector who shared his experiences relating to challenges faced by seafarers when ship owners face financial difficulties.

Dr Ann Fenech, Partner and Head of the Marine Litigation Department at Fenech & Fenech spoke about a recent case relating to the arrest of a ship following its judicial sale free and unencumbered and the work of Working Group VI on Judicial Sales at UNCITRAL, and Dr Adrian Attard, Partner in the Marine Litigation Department highlighted the key differences between judicial sales by auction and court approved private sales in Malta.

Dr Martina Farrugia, Associate in the Marine Litigation Department, moderated the event.
