Ann Fenech Head of our Marine Litigation Department in her capacity as President of the Comité Maritime International, opened and led the CMI Colloquium 2026 in Rio de Janeiro last week.

The Academic Programme covered a variety of topics which are hugely relevant to maritime legal practitioners and academics particularly in today’s challenging climate including: Fraudulent Registries and Fraudulent Registrations, the weaponisation of the sea routes, mobile off shore renewable units, decarbonisation and security interests in containers amongst other subjects. At the same time it was a perfect opportunity for the participants to enjoy renewing acquaintances and making new ones during the social events which included an opening party at Cavalo Marinho Beach Club, an excursion to the famous Sugarloaf Mountain, and a magnificent gala dinner at Casa das Canoas.

The Brazilian Maritime Law Association was responsible for all of the logistics behind this most successful and memorable Colloquium which attracted more than 400 people from all over the world and which was held at the Windsor Barra Hotel at Barra da Tijuca.
