Ann Fenech, Head of the Marine Litigation Department has been invited by the World Maritime University in Malmö Sweden to be one of the Course Instructors at the Summer Academy 2025 on International Maritime Law between the 1st and 5th September.

Dr. Fenech will open the second day of the Academy, Tuesday 2 September, with a session on ‘The Beijing Convention on Judicial Sale of Ships – Reality and Challenges’. The Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships, was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 2022 and signed in Beijing in September 2023. The Convention has so far attracted 34 signatories.

It ensures that vessels sold in judicial sales free and unencumbered cannot be subjected to any further claims following the judicial sale. It is expected to bring stability to international trade.
