Dr. Fenech Head of our Marine Litigation Department was invited in her capacity as President of the CMI, by Ambassador Dr. Dwight Gardiner Registrar General and Director of the Department of Marine Services and Merchant Shipping (ADOMS) to visit Antigua. During her visit she met with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne, the Attorney General and the Maritime Administration, to discuss the further processes involved to enable Antigua and Barbuda to ratify the Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships. Ambassador Gardiner had already signed the Convention on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda in Malta at a special signing ceremony held at Verdala Castle on the 19th of June last year.
Dr. Fenech’s trip also included delivering the International Maritime Law Lecture hosted by ADOMS and the Centre of Excellence for Oceanography and the Blue Economy – The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus. The audience was led by the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams and made up of maritime service providers, maritime lawyers and the judiciary.
