Last week, Ann Fenech, Head of our Marine Litigation Department, was at LEG 111 in her capacity as President of the CMI. LEG 111 addressed a number of very important and serious issues on the agenda for discussion, including the unfair treatment of seafarers detained on suspicion of having committed a maritime crime, piracy and the current security issues in the Red Sea and attacks on commercial shipping. Discussions also covered Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) and the rise in fraudulent registries.
This year, for the first time, the entire class of IMLI students attended to observe the workings of the IMO Legal Committee as part of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of IMLI. One of our Junior Associates, Diane Cutajar, who is also an IMLI student, attended and followed the deliberations at LEG 111.
