On the 22nd October 2021 the Merchant Shipping Directorate of Transport Malta issued Merchant Shipping Notice 174 to remind all concerned about the revised Malta Tonnage Regulations (Subsidiary Legislation 234.19) which entered into force on 1st September 2021. Transport Malta’s Measurement Guidelines for Yachts and other types of vessels and a revised Certificate of Survey for Maltese ships under 24 m in length have also been published.
Existing Malta Flagged yachts and vessels already issued with a valid Tonnage Certificate before such revised Tonnage Regulations, are not required to be re-measured in line with the requirements and interpretations detailed in the Guidelines, unless the yacht/vessel undergoes any modifications which may affect its dimensions and/or its type.
