F&F on campus for the Dissertation Dilemma

21 OCT 2016 – Partner Alison Vassallo and Jeanine Rizzo participated in an activity organised by GHSL – the Law Students Association. The activity, titled “Dissertation Dilemma”, took place at the University of Malta on the 19th October 2016. The aim of the event was to assist law students in choosing the subject of their dissertations and term papers which are an essential part of their obtaining a law degree.

Dr Vassallo introduced the students to the various fields covered by marine litigation, shipping, carriage of goods and yachting; while Dr Rizzo gave an overview of the different intellectual property rights – copyright, patents, designs, and trade marks.

Other speakers also participated, namely Dr David Fabri, head of the Commercial law department at the Faculty of Laws, the Hon. Francis Zammit Dimech who gave a detailed and historical introduction to media law, the Hon. Dr Marthese Portelli discussed environmental law and IT law, and Prof Pierre Mallia who introduced the students to the subject of bioethics, and the legal ramifications thereof. With such a broad overview of different subjects, law students are encouraged to diversify their research, and to tie together different areas of law by discussing issues which are common to them.
