Fenech & Fenech Marine and Fenech & Fenech Advocates at Marine Money – Hong Kong

Rowena Grima and Charlotte Spiteri from our Ship Registration and Ship Finance departments attended the 11th Annual Hong Kong Ship Finance Forum on Thursday 12th April 2018.

The Forum was attended by numerous delegates from all over the world including bankers, leasing companies, ship owners, ship management companies and other professionals. Notable international speakers and panels discussed trending ship finance opportunities and the prominence of Chinese Leasing Structures in Asian markets. The current state of container shipping and the dry bulk market were also assessed including the present value of second hand tonnage versus possible means of financing such acquisitions.

The application of the low sulphur fuel cap from 1st January 2020 also had shipowners considering the cost that such implications would have and the fate that present tonnage awaits. The potential of blockchain technology penetrating shipping transactions was also featured on the agenda and garnered differing comments from the delegates and panelists alike.
