Ann Fenech, President of the Malta Maritime Law Association opens seminar on Autonomous Navigation

Managing Partner of Fenech and Fenech Ann Fenech and President of the Malta Maritime Law Association,  last week opened the seminar organised by the Malta Maritime Law Association on Autonomous Navigation last week with a paper on “Automation – An Introduction to the Legal Perspective. “ She introduced the subject by taking the different stages of autonomy as commonly understood and explained how the Comite Maritime International was dealing with this important issue by reviewing a number of important international maritime conventions with a view to making them “Autonomy compatible.”  The key note speaker at the conference was Mr. Robert Veal from Southampton University a member of the CMI IWG on unmanned ships, and he was followed by a very interesting panel including Eng. Paul David Cardona, Capt. Mark Chapelle and Capt. Joe Gabriele, moderated by Dr. Stephan Piazza.
